A New Play in a New City

April 17th to April 27th, 2025

Angelique just opened the second production ever of Brian Dykstra's new play, Polishing Shakespeare at the Bridge Street Theatre in Catskills, NY! She booked the job the day she arrived in NYC (after driving through the night from Cincinnati).

The play is the story of a dot-com billionaire who pays an esteemed American theatre company to translate Shakespeare into English. This sly comedy, written entirely in iambic pentameter, is inspired by an unbelievably true story, as it asks the question: to sell out or not to sell out.

Come see the show! The play runs until April 27th.

Working on a World-Premiere

January 24th to February 8th, 2025

Angelique is thrilled to be working with playwright and screenwriter, Zina Camblin (Wu-Tang: an American Saga) on the world-premiere of her new play, The Guest! The play is a family situational living room comedy, that explores what happens when an adopted bi-racial woman knocks on the door of her Evangelical, right-wing birth mother's home in rural Missouri to get answers about her identity. Dysfunctional family dynamics ensue, and dark secrets are revealed, in this hilarious and timely dark comedy.

This is the first time Angelique has been a part of a world-premiere like this and she has loved developing the script and her character, Jessica, alongside Zina.
This play shows Archer’s full range of dealing with the character of Jessica, which goes from confusion, anger, hurt, and acceptance." -- Alan Jozwiak, League of Cincinnati Theatres

An Opportunity Two Years In The Making!

November 24th to December 29th, 2024

In December 2023, Angelique was a part of Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park's Mr. and Mrs. Fezziwig's Holiday Party, an immersive Christmas Carol experience put on by the company the year they could not put on their famed production because of the renovations for the theatre! It was there that she met so many kind artists, including the lovely and talented Dina Monk.

She had no idea that just two years later, she would act alongside Dina and some of the most talented and generous people she has ever had the privilege to work with. It is so rare to have a team that wants to spend their evenings playing games, singing karaoke, or even participating in a book club! But they did! And she will miss these wonderful artists and the many laughs they have shared both onstage and off.

She is forever grateful to have been a part of this Cincinnati Christmas tradition! She hopes she is able to come back next year and make performing in A Christmas Carol a tradition of her own.

Portia, who is played by Angelique Archer... leaves it all on the stage.  - Natalie Shaw and Julie Roberts, the Dallas Theatre Journal
Angelique just closed three shows with the Texas Shakespeare Festival, Much Ado About Nothing, Julius Caesar, and Sweeney Todd! She also participated in the staged reading of Jane Eyre.

This is her first time working in rep like this and she learned and grew a lot through this experience. This was also her first time doing a full-blown musical since her high school production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat! Whitney Branan (the director and choreographer of Sweeney Todd) was a dream to work with, and this experience has opened her up to the world of musical theatre. Hopefully this is only the first in a long line of musicals Angelique will do.

She is going to miss Texas Shakespeare Festival and especially all of the kind and talented people she worked with this summer.

December 18th, 2023 to March 23rd, 2024

Angelique is thrilled to announce that she will be going on tour as one of the two Narrators in the Utah Shakespeare Festival's touring production of Every Brilliant Thing! The show tours Utah and the West Coast from January through the end of March!

There are very few instances in life where you can make an immediate impact on the future generation. This tour of Every Brilliant Thing is one of those instances. This show and the conversations it will create will save lives. This show reminds students that they are not alone and provides them with resources to talk about their mental health struggles and get the help they need. Angelique became an artist because of the change theatre can make that will continue long after the play has ended. This show is a perfect example of the power and importance of this art form. It is a privilege to be a part of this tour and to bring this message to communities all over Utah.

November 10th to December 2nd, 2023

Puck is a role that Angelique has been preparing for for over a year! And boy, is it a joy to play! She has so much fun every night messing around and dancing with her Oberon (played by Geoffrey Warren Barnes II) and causing chaos (both intentionally and unintentionally).

This is a role unlike anything Angelique has done before, and she is so overjoyed at the opportunity to stretch her acting muscles and see what else she can do!

Come and see this hilarious winter-fied production of A Midsummer Night's Dream! It runs until December 2nd!
Archer as Puck is a mixture of obedient puppy, jokester and agent of chaos. The audience loves her.  -Liz Eichler, League of Cincinnati Theatres

Cato, a Tragedy: Staging the "Unstageable" Play

10/1/2023

September 2023

Picture
Joseph Addison's Cato, a Tragedy is a play that is at the core of the foundation of the United States. Some of the most famous lines from the American Revolution--Patrick Henry's famous ultimatum: "Give me liberty, or give me death!" and Nathan Hale's "I only regret that I have but one life to lose for my country."--were said to be references to this very play. This play was so important to the formation of our country that George Washington (who was lovingly referred to as America's Cato) defied a congressional ban on theatrical productions and put on a production of Cato for his soldiers in May 1778, at the end of a grueling winter in Valley Forge.

But despite its importance in the founding of this nation, the play has largely been forgotten due to its difficult language and the firm belief that the play is unstageable. But in the fall of 2023, Misty Gale Anderson and the R18 Collective came together to produce this unstageable play, and Angelique was thrilled to be a part of a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Picture
The team, helmed by the wonderful Charles Pasternak as the director, had two weeks to rehearse and tech the show before it went up in front of audiences. But this was more than just a performance. Misty brought in panelists from around the world to discuss this play in 45-minute-long discussions with the audience following every performance. This led to discussions about what it meant that George Washington saw himself as this great liberator when he enslaved people. What it meant to have Black characters like Juba and Syphax, who were progressive in so many ways (Juba ends the play in an interracial relationship, and Syphax is so proud to be Black), knowing those characters were first played by white actors in blackface. What it means for this country to be reaching towards and uplifting these ideas of virtue and liberty, and to not yet have achieved those ideals.

These very conversations and the power of theatre to create change that will continue long after the play has ended are why Angelique became an artist. And it was a privilege to be a part of telling this story and sharing in these conversations.

A Summer of Learning!

This summer, thanks to generous grants from  the Ohio Arts Council and the Great Lakes Michael Chekov Consortium (GLMCC), Angelique had the opportunity to take two very different Acting workshops: Module 1 of the certification program at GLMCC and the Clown Core Program taught by the wonderful Michelle Matlock at Dell’Arte International. She chose these workshops intentionally as she wants to grow as a physical actor while preparing for her role as Puck in A Midsummer Night's Dream at the Cincinnati Shakespeare Company in the fall.

She learned so much during these workshops and is so excited to put these new skills into practice this year. From the joys of making people laugh to the precise psychological gestures created by Michael Chekov to simply the importance of being comfortable doing nothing onstage but being open and vulnerable, this summer has given her many new tools to use as she continues to learn and grow as an artist. But more than that, through these programs, she met many talented and kind people in the industry and outside of it. She is so grateful for the dinners they shared, the conversations they had, and the advice and wisdom she received. She made lifelong friends in these programs, and this summer is one she will never forget.

A Part of An Original Shakespeare Musical!

4/21/2023

April 7th to April 29th, 2023

Eighteen months ago, the talented Cary Davenport was tasked to write a musical version of As You Like It! Now, 18 months later, Angelique is thrilled to be playing Celia in the Cincinnati Shakespeare Company's 1990s Brit-pop musical version of As You Like It which features 31 Original Songs!

With songs like "Seven Ages of Man," "Blow Thou Winter Wind," and "Rosalind and Celia Flee," this Shakespearean romantic comedy will have audiences singing the score for weeks after they see this show!

This show has made Angelique step out of her comfort zone in more ways than one. She is so grateful for another opportunity to, as her friend Courtney Lucien (who plays Rosalind in the show) would say, "chase challenges" and for the brave space CSC provides her to continue to grow as an artist.

Another Great Intimacy Direction Experience with Xavier University

For the last year, Angelique has been able to work with the students of Xavier University's Theatre program as an intimacy director on three different productions. "Rabbit Hole" directed by friend and colleague Patrick Earl Phillips, and "Gruesome Playground Injuries" and "Measure for Measure" directed by student directors Tessa D'Errico and Isabelle Trapp, respectively.

Thank you, Xavier University for continuing to prioritize educational environments where all students can learn and grow without disregarding their physical and emotional well-being. It was a joy to work with these students, and Angelique hopes to work with Xavier Theatre again soon.
